Meeting Le Cordon Bleu

It has been my dream to attend the world class culinary institute Le Cordon Bleu for a long time. So when I heard they were opening in London, I jumped at the chance to visit the institute and it’s café as soon as I could. The café is situated opposite the British museum, and behind the pied bull yard archway. Once there I was immediately drawn to striking blue coloured exterior of the café, its window was filled with mouth watering pastries and preserves.

Once inside the café however, I was already disappointed, with metal tops and plastic chairs it reminded me of my secondary school canteen, instead of the Parisian charm I was expecting.

First impression I thought it was a cross hybrid between krispy kreme doughnut and a bagel. However I was told that it was an almond pastry, to be honest I could hardly taste the aromatic almond essence in the pastry and the texture tasted much like a dry profiterole.

Well, I would be lying if I told you it was as good as it looks.  The crust really lacked the crunch and buttery flavour. The lemon filling was rather bland and was missing a lemony kick that I love about lemon tarts. The only good factor was probably the meringue on top which was light and airy.Eat in price £3.10 and take away price £2.60
In conclusion, it was definitely not worth the price I was paying. I expected so much more and the interior is definitely in need of some TLC. And the products felt like those you get from your local supermarket.

I'm really hoping that they have improved by now, so if anyone decides to give it a try let me know how it goes!

See you and don't forget to comment and share!
